As a wedding photographer, some days just feel easy in the best possible way. Jackie and Paul’s wedding in Glen Clova was exactly that — relaxed, full of genuine moments, and set against the beautiful backdrop of the Angus hills near the Cairngorms National Park.

Glen Clova is ideal for couples who love the outdoors. Rolling hills, open space, fresh Highland air — it all felt very “them.” A lot of their guests were outdoorsy types too, the kind of people who are happiest in walking boots and don’t mind a bit of breeze. That made photographing everyone outside feel natural rather than staged. No one needed persuading to step out for a group photo or take a short wander for portraits.
It suited the day. It suited the people.
The Dogs (and Cats Of Course)
Having their two dogs there made everything feel even more personal. They popped up in all the best moments — walking down the aisle, greeting guests, sneaking into photos. Outdoorsy Guests & Easy Portraits
Many of Jackie and Paul’s friends had travelled from Wales and beyond, and plenty of them were fellow adventure-lovers. You could tell they were completely at home in the landscape. Guests drifted outside to take in the view, chat in the fresh air, and enjoy the setting.
From a photography point of view, that makes such a difference. When people are comfortable outdoors, everything feels more relaxed. Group photos are quicker, couples are happy to wander a little further for a great backdrop, and nothing feels forced.
The Singers Waiters Surprise
One of the highlights was the singers waiters. Just when everyone had settled into drinks and conversation, the “staff” suddenly burst into song. The reactions were brilliant — confusion, surprise, then big smiles and laughter as everyone realised what was happening.
It was such a fun way to kick off the celebrations. The energy in the room lifted straight away, and it brought people together quickly. From a photographer’s perspective, it was perfect — real reactions, people on their feet, arms linked, singing along. It set the tone for the rest of the evening and got the party started without any awkwardness.

As the day went on, we kept portraits relaxed. A short walk, a quiet few minutes away from the crowd, nothing over-posed. The light over Glen Clova was soft and flattering, and the landscape did the rest. Jackie and Paul were comfortable together, which makes all the difference — no need for big direction when a couple naturally fits side by side.
